In January 2018, a Californian dispatcher answered an emergency call made by a young girl named Jordan Turpin. Jordan, whose high-pitched voice and childlike pronunciation made her sound no more than 10 years old, was actually 17 years of age. It was just before 6am on a Sunday, and she had finally escaped the torturous home of her abusive parents.
Jordan had managed to get hold of an unused mobile phone, which she took with her when she escaped. One of Jordan’s siblings also escaped the house with her but became too scared of being caught and turned back, but Jordan kept running.
